The Data network

The current test bed data network is designed for operation in the old L1/HLT, as well as 1 MHz readout scheme. The core of the network is the e600 router (switch01.daq.lhcb).

The "old farm", i.e. the nodes farm0001 - farm0123 are used to emulate TELL1s (aka injector). Their data interfaces are connected directly to switch01.

The "new farm", i.e. farm0101 - farm0144 is the current farm rack prototype. The rack also contains two hp3400 48 port GbE switches (swfarm01 and swfarm01a). swfarm01 is conected to the router by 11 GbE links, each link providing a separate route. The routes between the E600 and the HP switches are using /30 sub-nets, i.e. have only two usable addresses, with the lower one being the router port on the E600, and the higher one on the HP.

The sub-farm controller sfc03 as a relic from the L1/HLT has two active data interfaces, one connected to the injector nodes, and the other to the trigger farm nodes.

In addition, the VELO assembly room is incorporated into the test bed data network by means of an optical fibre link between the labs in bat. 168 and 157.

The logical layout of the dat anetwork is shown below, and a physical view of the complete data network is shown here: physical view.

Note: For clarity, only one route is shown between E600 and HP.
